Election campaign
Campaign issues
Bush presented himself as an unsurpassable leader and national security was
focused in his campaign. Bush promised to its people that he would be hard
on terrorists and their activities, but in contrast Kerry's was saying,
"Stronger at home, respected in the world." This lead to the idea that Kerry
would be more focused in domestic affairs, it also made Kerry's argument
false that American international partners became unfriendly because of
foreign policies of Bush Administration.
American people who supported the war on
terrorism in Afghanistan and Iraq voted for Bush. And those people who
opposed war on Iraq and for whom financial matters like employment and
people’s health & world peace were important, voted for Kerry.
After the 9/11 terrorist attack on America
the popularity of Bush was in sky but the invasion of Iraq and arrest of
Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein in December gradually decreased his popularity.
In August, 2004 Bush was accused in the
Killian documents of failing to accomplish his needed service in the Texas
Air National Guard, but the center quickly became the conduct of CBS News
when the documents were found to be fake.
Swift Vets and POWs for Truth accused Kerry,
for "phony war crimes charges, his overstated claims about his own service
in Vietnam, & his purposeful falsification of the nature and efficiency of
Swift boat operations force us to step ahead." The group defiance the
authority of all combat medals awarded by the U.S. Navy to Kerry for his
services, and the disposition of his discharge.
