Background

In 2000, Supreme Court solved the problems in elections including serious disputes over recounts in Florida and George W. Bush was named the President of United States. The recounting of votes was done by machine as well as manually, with George Bush leading after each recount. The U.S. Supreme Court ordered the Supreme Court of Florida to end the recounts after it was discovered that Bush was leading in every recount.

With the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001 on America a new image of Bush as "warrior president” came in front of the world. He started a war against terrorism, and with British forces he attacked Afghanistan which was allegedly hiding Osama bin Laden, the architect of 9/11 attacks. By the end of the year, the Taliban was defeated and first democratic elections were held in Afghanistan.

The next target of U.S. was Iraq. The Bush administration stated that removal of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was becoming necessary because according to U.S. Saddam's government had tried to obtain nuclear weapons and had not properly accounted for the possession of biological and chemical weapons, weapons of mass destruction (WMD) violating the U.N. sanctions. U.S. failed to find abovementioned weapons in Iraq and also failed to prove Al-Qaeda/Saddam Hussein connection. These circumstances were so intensified that U.S. called together other nations, including the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, and Poland to attack Iraq and dethrone Saddam Hussein. This grouping of nations was termed as “coalition of the willing” by the Bush Administration.

Attack on Iraq began on March 20, 2003. And in just three weeks these coalition forces defeated the military of Iraq and forced the Iraqi government to surrender. The oil program of Iraq was quickly undertaken with partial damage. The U.S president, then flown to Iraq on the 1st of May, where he declared the operation a success.
But the actions of U.S. president were highly condemned as they failed to locate the alleged weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
